A healthy and nutritious diet is a prerequisite for Muslimah fitness and for the efficient functioning of the body. A balanced diet consists of an optimum mix of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, vitamins, and minerals essential for the normal body functions. Islam believes in the importance of nutrition in the body and that good health is a gift of Allah, which must be preserved with the aid of nutritious foods and Muslimah fitness.
“Eat of the good things, which we have provided for you.” (Quran 2:173). Therefore, the holy dictate covers all the nourishing, basic food groups, complying with the importance of nutrition in the body. It recommends ample fluids intake (milk, juices, water), seasonal fruits (dates, grapes, olives, pomegranates), vegetables (onion, garlic), honey, corn, grains, and livestock (beef, poultry, fish). Infants must get mother’s milk to boost their digestive system and immunity. Islam believes in the importance of nutrition in the body, as well as the soul, and prohibits the intake of pork, carrion i.e. carcass of a dead animal, blood, and intoxicants, as these are considered impure or unclean, and unsuitable for the nutrition of soul. “O you people! Eat of what is on earth lawful and good!” (2:168). In effect, you can consume any edible, except the specifically prohibited ones.
“Eat and drink and be not immoderate.” (7:31). Islam well believes in the ‘moderate’ intake of a balanced diet. For instance, sweets and junk food should be consumed in moderation. Overlooking the importance of nutrition for Muslimah fitness leads to health problems, such as coronary problems, high cholesterol, obesity, and diabetes.
In effect, Islam has a holistic approach towards maintaining a healthy body and soul. It corroborates the importance of nutrition in the body and believes that maintaining health and Muslimah fitness is just another way of thanking Allah for his bounties on earth.
